Welcoming support, love, and abundance in all its forms is essential to feeling whole and energized. When giving and receiving are in balance, life flows with ease. Your cup feels full, and a sense of abundance surrounds you. But without this balance, it’s easy to feel drained, burned out, or even resentful.

At the heart of receiving is the ability to openly accept what is meant for you. But receiving is not a passive act. It works in harmony with three other essential shifts. First, releasing expectations or control creates space for the highest possibilities to unfold, ones that may look different from what you originally envisioned. Then, gaining clarity on what you truly desire allows you to attract, rather than chase, what nourishes you. And finally, once you’ve invited in what you seek, fully embracing and integrating it brings a sense of wholeness and unity.

This cycle of nourishment is built on a deep commitment, and a continual re-commitment, to:

  • Letting go of what no longer serves you (Release)
  • Gaining clarity on and inviting what you truly want (Attract)
  • Fully embracing what arrives with an open heart (Unity)

Learn How to Ask for Help

If you’ve ever struggled with asking for help, you’re not alone! Despite research showing that helping others is a deeply rewarding experience and likely a key factor in our evolution, many of us avoid asking for even the smallest favors. Why? Because it can feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, or even like a setup for rejection.

But here’s the thing: Learning to ask for help is one of the most powerful ways to expand your ability to receive. And the best part? The outcome of your request isn’t the main focus. Simply showing up and asking is the real growth moment. Here’s a simple guide to help you navigate asking for support with confidence and ease:

  • Get Clear. Before you reach out, take a moment to refine your request. Try to distill it into four key points: 1) What specifically do you need? 2) Why is it important? 3) How can they help? 4) Why do you think they’re the right person to ask? Keeping your request concise and direct helps both you and the person you’re asking.
  • Own It. Asking for help isn’t a weakness. It’s a natural and vital part of human connection. Think about a time you helped someone. Remember how good it felt? When you ask for support, you’re giving someone else that same opportunity. There’s no need to apologize or downplay your request.
  • Stay Open. While it’s great to be clear about the kind of support you’re looking for, stay open to different ways of receiving it. The person you ask may have insights or solutions you hadn’t considered.
  • Make It Personal. If possible, ask in person.Studies show face-to-face requests are more effective. When that’s not an option, opt for a more personal approach, like a video call or phone conversation, instead of a text or email.
  • Close the Loop with Gratitude. If someone is able to support you, take a moment to thank them. The size of the request can guide your response. A simple text, a heartfelt thank-you note, or a follow-up conversation can go a long way in nurturing your connections.

When you practice asking for help, you strengthen your ability to receive, not just from others, but from life itself.

 

2. Connect to Your Spirituality

There’s a special kind of support available to you, not through effort or striving, but through connection. Whether you experience it as a relationship with a higher power, the vast intelligence of the universe, or the quiet wisdom of nature, spirituality has a way of reminding us that we are not alone.

Learning to receive starts with trust. Trusting that you are loved, that guidance is available, and that you are held by something greater than yourself. This doesn’t mean forcing belief in something that doesn’t resonate with you. It simply means allowing yourself to step into a space of wonder, openness, and deep connection.

Here are a few ways to cultivate that connection:

  • Prayer. If you have a personal spiritual practice, take time to offer gratitude, ask for guidance, or simply open yourself to the presence of love and support.
  • Meditation. Quieting the mind can help you tune into something deeper—whether that’s inner wisdom, divine inspiration, or the peaceful presence of the moment itself.
  • Gratitude. Recognizing the beauty around you—whether in people, nature, or simple moments, can shift your awareness toward the abundance of support already present in your life.

One of the simplest ways to strengthen this connection is through Loving-Kindness Meditation (Metta), a practice that fosters deep compassion for yourself and others.

A Simple Loving-Kindness Practice

  • Find a quiet space. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths.
  • Bring kindness to yourself. Silently say to yourself: May I be safe. May I be healthy. May I be loved. May I receive all that I need.
  • Extend kindness to someone you love. Picture a friend or family member and repeat: May you be safe. May you be healthy. May you be loved. May you receive all that you need.
  • Expand outward. Bring to mind a stranger, a community, or even the whole world, and offer the same heartfelt wishes. Sit in the feeling. Take a moment to feel the warmth of these intentions before slowly opening your eyes.

This simple practice shifts your awareness toward love, connection, and openness. And when your heart is open, receiving becomes a natural extension of your being.

 

3. Sync up with your Synchronicities

Of all the ways to open yourself up to receiving, this one might be the most fun! Synchronicities, those meaningful coincidences that seem too perfect to be random, are little nudges from the universe reminding you that you’re supported in ways you may not always see.

The practice is simple: pay attention. Start noticing patterns, recurring symbols, or unexpected moments of alignment. Maybe you keep seeing the same number sequence, hear a song lyric that answers a question you’ve been sitting with, or run into an old friend right when you need their wisdom. These winks from the universe aren’t just fun; they’re powerful reminders that life is unfolding in ways beyond your control, often in your favor.

The point isn’t to overanalyze; it’s to embrace these little sparks of connection as gifts. When you do, you open yourself up to receiving more of them.

So, keep your eyes open. Smile at the small signs. And trust that you’re exactly where you need to be  

4. Explore New Things to Learn.

Learning to receive is moving your whole being into a more allowing and open state. In doing so, you are actively nourishing your soul and allowing the world and humans around you to contribute.

Another practice that helps you create a more open and welcoming orientation in your life is expanding your mind by learning new things. Seeking mind-nourishing opportunities, whether through classes, books, podcasts, or deeper conversations, opens new mental windows. Each new connection or offbeat topic you explore builds mental elasticity. There’s plenty of research to back your decision to dedicate your Saturday afternoons to learning to play the Ukulele.

When you choose topics or subjects that are outside of your normal knowledge intake, you’re boosting your capacity for receiving.

5. Empower Yourself with Superfoods.

The truth is there is no real definition for the word Superfood. In fact, much of the available research about the topic focuses on how marketers have taken this word hostage. This doesn’t change the fact that foods that are deliciously dense in vitamins and nutrients are super for you. And when it comes to practices that help you learn to receive, choosing to nourish yourself with healthy food is paramount. This along with sleep is your original medicine and expands your energetic capacity.

That said, in a marketplace that isn’t always authentically looking out for your high-vibe, healing journey, we know maintaining a life-force giving diet isn’t easy. So this practice is all being intentional about what you’re bringing into your body. Choosing and sourcing super-y foods is a commitment. One that we prioritize and know its power.

There are tons of other resources and experts available to help you navigate your nutritional experience, so we’ll keep this practice simple. Decide to deeply nourish yourself and your family with SUPER-duper foods before you drop into your supermarket. There are lots of great options — many of which won't say superfood on it. If there’s an option that appears not to be sprayed by chemicals while growing, go for that when you can. A few of our personal staples include: blueberries, matcha tea, spinach, and avocados. Do your research and make what’s good for you a priority.

6. Heal with Energetic Bodywork

Another fantastic way to shift your being into a more receptive mode is to allow a massage therapist or energy worker to offer their healing powers to you. There are tons of benefits to getting regular bodywork that supports both your physical and mental health. And, as it relates to learning how to receive more, this is a potent self-care practice.

If seeing a practitioner isn’t a match for your current situation, there are other great options. If you have someone in your home that might be up for offering a neck rub - ASK! And, don’t forget about numero uno! Whether you engage a therapist’s support or not, be sure to give yourself a massage. You might be surprised by what a quick foot rub, shoulder tension release, or a few rolls of the neck can do. Try out a foam roller to untangle knots. These are tiny gifts to yourself and an excellent practice for receiving!

Learning to receive is a practice, one that requires trust, openness, and a willingness to let life support you in unexpected ways. Whether you’re asking for help, deepening your spiritual connection, or tuning into the quiet magic of synchronicity, each small shift makes a difference.
